The trick there is getting the blog listed in all the blog directories and search engines.

Here in Answers, you have links to your site in your profile, and every time you answer a question, a back link is being created.

Another way is to write articles and submit them for publishing in places like ezine articles. You have a sig file there as well and they will link back to your site.
